The more I look at this, the more I am shocked and disgusted…
First, I guess the Secret Service lowered the fitness standard…some of these agents don’t look like they can save their own life, let alone the President.
- Holster your G@D D@MN weapon…it looks like the first time that agent ever handled a firearm. It’s truly embarrassing.
- Sunglasses on or off? I know people have been shitting on this person for this…but when you’re under stress, you don’t know what is going to come out, and if you’re used to having your sunglasses and (and in this case, given the time of day, she probably needed them) if they get knocked off, she’s going to want to put them back on.
- WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING??? These ladies look like BAD EXTRAS in a shitty action movie. You see the big bald white guy in the corner of the video? That’s how you scan a crowd. Running around, moving your head rapidly doesn’t allow you to notice…well anything. You need to stay still and look for movement that is contradictory to the situation.
- Get the protectee OFF THE X. There is NO WAY DT should have time to get his shoes and take a photo op.
- Agents on body should be the same size or larger than the protectee. You can’t shield something larger than you. Sheep don’t guard horse.
That said, there are some BASIC skills you should master if you are going to be a high level protector, and many of these agents don’t move with any degree of proficiency.
Here’s the thing…even if you’re doing the wrong thing…LOOK GOOD DOING IT.
If an NFL player runs the wrong play, he still looks like an NFL player. He moves with skill and precision. Even if these agents were doing to wrong thing…they would handle their weapon correctly and move like a bad ass.
The USSS agents I knew have shot hundreds of thousands of rounds. That weapon was a part of their anatomy. What I saw at the rally attack was beyond comprehension. They looked like rank amateurs. It is clear the USSS ain’t what it used to be.
How did this even happen…
It’s a combination of political rhetoric and complacency, negligence or possible malice.
Complacency, not conspiracy.
First if this were an government sanctioned assassination attempt there would be trained, multiple shooters like in the JFK assassination. Just one more shooter in this scenario and Trump doesn’t out alive.
I’m leaning towards negligence.
First, denying the extra protection requests in light of the current political climate is interesting. Look, you can not provide as much protection in “hope” that something happens. The fact that multiple members of the opposition have petitioned to have his security detailed removed is a bit disturbing. What’s the motivation behind this? Remove protection – leave him vulnerable.
But that still shouldn’t matter – because you can still fill in the gaps with local PD manning those positions. It’s just unbelievable that the shooter was less than 150 yards away.
You need to secure 1,000 yards around the protectee and the structure where the shooter set up, was well in the perimeter. This is protection 101. Secure all positions with line of sight on the target within that range. There should have been someone on that roof…or at least a drone?!?! It’s the USSS…we can’t afford a drone.
How does a threat get to a high position within 150 yards unnoticed? How does a self trained kid get off multiple shots?
The Agent in Charge Should Be Fired (and the cop that saw the shooter and backed down should be fired).
The other issue I have is…why did they stay on the stage? Look, the fist pump is iconic, but it shouldn’t have happened. Once they decided to move him from cover behind the podium to the car, that should have happened FAST and Trump’s body should have been covered with agents. You don’t stop for his shoes and a photo op.
why are agents smaller than the protectee on body? It’s like trying to cover a horse with a dog. All agents on body need to be the same size or LARGER than the body for obvious reasons. You’re literally need to put human shields around the protectee.
Look, the culture of the USSS has changed. Several years ago in 2012, agents were discovered (while on duty) procuring prostitutes in Brazil (story here). This is an agency that prided itself on ethics and morals. Obviously, this has changed.
Make America Safe Again,
Damian
PS. Just in case you forgot…the USSS used to be bad ass…
